ABOUT SCALE & BALANCE CALIBRATION

Scale and balance preventative maintenance is a proactive program designed to keep weighing instruments accurate, reliable, and in compliance with industry standards. It focuses on routine care and inspection to minimize downtime, extend equipment lifespan, and avoid costly repairs.

Additionally, regular preventative maintenance not only protects measurement integrity but also supports regulatory compliance and reduces the risk of unexpected equipment failure.

Scale & Balance Calibration

What We Do

  • Cleaning and Inspection: Removing dust, spills, and debris from weighing pans, housings, and surrounding areas to prevent contamination or mechanical interference. Visual checks are performed for wear, loose parts, or corrosion.
  • Calibration Verification: Using certified test weights to confirm accuracy and      performance. Full calibration is scheduled at defined intervals to ensure traceability to national standards.
  • Eccentricity, Linearity, and Repeatability Checks: Testing critical functions to verify the balance is performing consistently across its entire range.
  • Environmental Control: Checking vibration, drafts, and temperature conditions that may impact performance. Shielding or stabilizing measures are applied as needed.
  • Firmware/Software Updates: Ensuring the balance’s operating system is current, if      applicable, for enhanced accuracy and compliance.
  • Documentation: Recording all maintenance, adjustments, and calibration results to support      quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO/IEC 17025:2017, GLP/GMP).

Why It Matters

Balance calibration is the process of verifying and adjusting a balance to ensure it provides accurate, consistent, and reliable weight measurements. Three key tests are performed during calibration and certification:

  • Eccentricity Testing (Corner Load Test): This checks whether the balance gives the same reading when a test weight is placed at different positions on the weighing pan (center, front, back, left, right). A properly calibrated balance should produce nearly identical results regardless of load placement, confirming even weight distribution.
  • Linearity  Testing: This evaluates the accuracy of the balance across its full      weighing range. Certified test weights of increasing values are measured to ensure the displayed weight matches the true value at multiple points. Any deviation indicates where adjustment is needed to maintain accuracy throughout the range.
  • Repeatability Testing: This measures the balance’s ability to provide consistent results when the same test weight is placed repeatedly. Multiple weighings are performed, and the standard deviation of the results is calculated.  A low variation demonstrates good repeatability and instrument stability.
